How to use it

Using Hizoo takes 10 minutes lying down and 30 seconds with your hands.

You don't need to learn a technique. Put Hizoo behind your neck, choose Gentle, and lie back until it turns itself off. Then finish with a few light strokes down your neck. Do it before bed, and you wake up less puffy.

Step by step

How do you use it for the first time?

Charge it first with the USB-C cable in the box. Then it's four steps, and the last one is lying still.

Woman in her 30s lying back in bed on Hizoo, propped on pillows

Lie back on your bed or sofa

Rest your head on a pillow or against the arm of the sofa. Bend your knees or keep your legs straight, whichever lets you breathe easily.

Man in his early 60s lying flat in bed with his neck resting between the two prongs of Hizoo

Rest your neck between the prongs

Lift your head a little and slide Hizoo behind your neck, just below the bony bump at the base of your skull. Lower your head so the kneading nodes sit on the muscles of your neck.

The four buttons on the side of Hizoo

Turn it on and choose Gentle

Turn on the warmth and pick the Gentle setting. Gentle is the one for puffiness.

Man in his mid 40s with a beard, lying back in bed at night on Hizoo

Let it work for 10 minutes

Breathe slowly and let your head get heavy. Hizoo turns itself off after 10 minutes, so it's fine if you fall asleep.

When it switches off, do the 30-second hand finish. Then check the mirror in the morning.

Video

Watch Dr. Brandon show you where Hizoo goes on your neck.

Dr. Brandon Bridgeman is a sports chiropractor. In this short video he shows where Hizoo should sit and how to lie back on it.

Dr. Brandon's placement tips
  • If the nodes touch the back of your head, it's sitting too high. Lift your head and slide Hizoo down a little.
  • Keep it on the muscles of your neck and the tops of your shoulders, below the bony base of your skull.
  • Take slow, deep breaths while it works.
  • Let your neck lengthen a little, as if you're making space between your head and your shoulders.
  • Small adjustments are all it takes. You don't need to press down with your hands.

Settings

Which setting should you use for puffiness?

Use Gentle with the lower heat level. Save the stronger settings for days when your neck feels stiff or knotted.

Gentle, Moderate or Intense

Gentle is the one for puffiness, because gentle pressure moves lymph better than hard pressure. Moderate and Intense are there for knots and a stiff neck.

Two heat levels, up to 42°C (107°F)

The warmth helps tight neck muscles relax. Start on the lower level. On days when your neck is stiff, the higher level feels great.

10 minutes, then it turns itself off

One session a day is all you need. If your neck is very tight, you can stop after 5 minutes for the first few nights and build up.

The 30-second hand finish

After the 10 minutes, help the fluid on its way with your hands.

Use flat fingers and very light pressure, just enough to move your skin. If your skin turns red, you're pressing too hard.

Down the sides of your neck

Stroke lightly from just below your ears down to your collarbone. Do it five times on each side.

Just above your collarbone

Rest your fingertips in the soft hollow above each collarbone and press softly five times.

Then your face

Sweep from the middle of your face out toward your ears, then down your neck. If you use a roller or gua sha, this is the time for it.

Keep your hands on the sides of your neck, and never press on the front of your throat.

Morning or night

Should you use it at night or first thing in the morning?

Both work. Doing it most days matters more than the time of day.

Before bed, for the next morning

This is when most of our reviewers use it. It helps you wind down, and you wake up less puffy. A lot of people fall asleep before it turns off.

My eyes are no longer almost closed

Helping me to sleep so much better

I use it in the morning and at night. I look forward to each time, it just feels so good. I am pretty convinced that it is the HiZoo that is helping me to sleep so much better at night.

Getting used to it

What's normal in the first week?

Most first-week questions come down to placement. If something feels off, check that Hizoo is sitting low enough on your neck, then switch to Gentle.

Still not right? Write to us and a real person on our team will walk you through it.

It feels really strong the first few times.

That's normal if your neck carries a lot of tension. Stay on Gentle and give it a few nights. As your neck loosens, it gets more comfortable.

Reduced the puffiness in my face

It's still too much for me on Gentle.

Slip a thin pillowcase or a T-shirt over Hizoo, and stop after 5 minutes for the first few nights. Then build up to the full 10.

It's pressing on the back of my head or catching my hair.

It's sitting too high. Lift your head and slide Hizoo down about an inch, so the nodes sit on the muscles of your neck. If you have long hair, tie it up first.

It left a red mark on my neck.

That can happen in the first few sessions. Use Gentle, slip a thin pillowcase over Hizoo, and keep it to 10 minutes. If the marks don't fade, take a few days off and email support@hizoo.co.

I keep falling asleep on it.

That's fine. It turns itself off after 10 minutes, and plenty of people drift off before it does.

My neck feels a little tender the next day.

A little tenderness at first is normal, like after a deep massage. Stay on Gentle, and take a day off if you need to.

It feels small on my neck.

If your neck is big or muscular, try it sitting back against a chair or the back of the sofa as well as lying down. The angle changes how it fits.

Questions

What else do people ask about using it?

See the full FAQ, or email support@hizoo.co. A real person on our team will answer.

How often should I use it?

Once a day, most days. Fluid collects in your face every night, so Hizoo works best as a daily habit, like brushing your teeth. One 10-minute session is all it takes.

Can I use it sitting up?

Yes. Lean back against a chair or the back of the sofa so the weight of your head rests on it.

Can I still use my gua sha, roller or face device?

Yes. Do Hizoo and the hand finish first, then your face tool. Always sweep out toward your ears and down your neck.

Is it safe to use every day?

Yes. It's made for 10 minutes a day, and it turns itself off when the time is up. The warmth stays at 42°C (107°F) or below, and Hizoo is FCC, CE and RoHS certified. You can read more on our safety page.

Can I take it with me when I travel?

Yes. It's cordless, it comes with a travel pouch, and one charge lasts about four sessions.

Can my partner use it too?

Yes, and a lot of couples end up fighting over it. If you'd both like to use it every night, 2 Hizoos are $359, which works out at $179.50 each. See the bundles.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Try it for 30 days. If you're not happy with it, email support@hizoo.co within 30 days of delivery and we'll send you a return label. Once it arrives back with us, we refund your card, minus $15 for return shipping. Normal use is fine.
