For women who wake up with a puffy face

Puffy Face Every Morning? It’s Not Fat. It’s a Lymphatic Drainage Problem in Your Neck.

Before and after: the same woman in her 40s, first with puffy morning eyes and a fuller face, then with flatter under-eyes and a more rested lookBeforeAfter
Same woman. Same light. Less morning puffiness. An illustration of the change owners describe.

It’s there at 7 a.m. It’s mostly gone by lunch. Fat doesn’t do that. Fluid does. Here’s where that fluid gets stuck, why ice, rollers and eye creams never last, and the 10-minute habit women now do lying in bed.

What owners say about their mornings now
  • “Before getting up in the morning, I use the Hizoo and my eyes are no longer almost closed from puffiness afterwards.”Kylie Brookes G., verified buyer
  • “…my hizoo has taken care of the tension in my shoulders and the swelling I used to wake up with daily on my face.”Kellie N., verified buyer
  • “I immediately noticed de puff from my face in the morning.”Adrienne G., verified buyer
  • “I had a friend ask what I was doing. She said I look 10 years younger. Not sure if it is hizoo but I will take it!”Jane C., verified buyer

Your alarm goes off. You walk into the bathroom, flip on the light, and there it is.

Puffy eyes. Heavy lids. A swollen face that looks like you cried all night, even though you slept fine.

You splash it with cold water. You hold a cold spoon under each eye. You dab on concealer, and somehow the bags look even bigger.

Then the day starts.

Someone at work asks, “Are you okay? You look tired.” You’re not tired. That’s just your face now.

You turn your camera off for the morning call. You slide to the back of the group photo. A friend tags you, and you untag yourself before anyone sees it.

You don’t feel tired. You just look it. Every single morning.

You’re not the only oneOn skincare forums, women describe the same mornings. One doesn’t go into work until 11 a.m. Until then, she wears eye patches and waits for the swelling to go down. Another saw her family photos and realized how “haggard” she’d started to look. Another says that in pictures, she looks “like a different person.”

If that sounds like you, here’s the good news. It isn’t vanity, and it isn’t just age. It’s drainage. And once you see where the drain is, it all makes sense.

You’ve tried everything. So had Dominique.

You fought it. Of course you did.

  • Less salt. More water. No wine on weeknights.
  • A jade roller in the fridge. A gua sha stone. Cold spoons.
  • Caffeine eye cream. Under-eye patches. Maybe even hemorrhoid cream, because someone online swore by it.
  • An extra pillow. Sleeping on your back.
  • Maybe even a lymphatic drainage massage, at $150 a visit.

Some of it helped for an hour. None of it lasted. The next morning at 7 a.m., the puffy face was back.

A jade roller, a gua sha stone, eye cream and under-eye patches on a marble bathroom counter
The usual counter: roller, gua sha, eye cream, patches. Most of it works for an hour.

Dominique B. knows that feeling. Here’s how she started her 5-star review:

For about 5 years, I’ve had constant, pronounced under eye puffiness. It makes me look much older than I am and has made me very self conscious. I tried everything - changing my diet, greatly increasing my water intake, cutting way back on sugars/salts, eye creams, face yoga, more sleep, allergy meds - but absolutely nothing worked. Looking at my parents and grandparents, who have the same puffiness, I finally began to accept that it was genetic and that the only solution was surgery.

Dominique B.Verified buyerMar 2026

Five years. Everything she could think of. And she’d started to believe surgery was the only way out.

Hold that thought. We’ll come back to what happened to Dominique. First, you need to see why none of it worked.

It’s not fat. Fat doesn’t leave by lunch.

Fat doesn’t come and go. Fluid does.

If your face is puffiest when you wake up and better by noon, the part that changes isn’t fat. It’s fluid. Doctors call it lymph.

Try this tomorrowTake a selfie the minute you wake up. Take another at 4 p.m., by the same window. Look at your eyes and your jaw. The part that changed is fluid, and it’s the part you can do something about.

Your body makes this fluid all day long. It’s supposed to drain out of your face and back into your blood. And it can only leave one way: down through your neck.

Drawing of a woman's face and neck showing fluid draining from the face, under the jaw, down the side of the neck and out above the collarbone
  1. 1Fluid collects under your eyes and in your cheeks.
  2. 2It drains down to the small glands under your jaw.
  3. 3Then down the busiest cluster, on the side of your neck.
  4. 4And out at the base of your neck, back into your blood.

Here’s the catch. Your blood has your heart to push it around. Lymph doesn’t. It creeps along when you move, when you breathe, and when you’re upright so gravity can help.

So when you lie flat for eight hours, the fluid pools in your face, most of all around your eyes. That’s the 7 a.m. face. Once you’re up and moving, some of it drains, which is why you look better by lunch.

A salty dinner, a glass of wine, a good cry, a hot night or allergy season add even more fluid. That’s why some mornings are worse than others.

Drawing of a woman asleep on her back, with fluid collected softly under her eyes
Illustration: lying flat all night, the fluid collects in your face.

It can get harder with age, too. Scientists at Shiseido, the Japanese skincare company, looked inside women’s skin with 3D imaging. After menopause, the tiny lymph vessels in the skin had changed shape and worked less well. So the fluid can be slower to leave. None of this is something you did.

The puffiness shows up in your face. But it can only get out through your neck.

The drainage problem in your neck

More than a third of your lymph nodes sit in your neck: about 300 of the 800 in your body. The busiest cluster runs down the sides, right next to the muscles that hold up your head.

Now think about your day. Looking down at your phone. Leaning into a laptop. Shoulders up by your ears when you’re stressed. Hours of that keep those neck muscles tight.

Therapists compare it to standing on a garden hose. The fluid slows down, and it backs up into your face.

Feel itTurn your head a little to the left. Gently press along the right side of your neck, from just below your ear down to your collarbone. Tight? Tender? That’s the way out for your face.

Now look at everything on your bathroom counter. Ice, rollers, gua sha, creams. They all start at your face. A roller can push fluid down for a while. But if the way out is squeezed, where does it go?

Push fluid toward a tight neck, and it comes right back.

That’s why the roller works for an hour, and you’re puffy again tomorrow morning.

Why real lymphatic drainage starts at the neck

If you’ve ever had a lymphatic drainage massage, think back to where she started. Not your face. Your neck and collarbone.

The self-drainage guides written by lymphedema therapists do the same thing. Clear the neck first, then the face. Open the way out, so the face has somewhere to drain.

Drawing of a therapist's hands resting lightly above a woman's collarbones at the start of a lymphatic session
Illustration: a lymphatic session starts at the neck and collarbone, not the face.

A good session can work wonders. But it costs $150 or more, it takes an hour, and it lasts a few days. Your face fills up again every single night.

The fluid comes back every night. So the fix has to happen every day.

So what if you could work on your neck every day, for 10 minutes, without getting out of bed?

Meet HiZoo: 10 minutes in bed, morning or night

A woman lying in bed with her neck resting on HiZoo
Ten minutes, lying down. In the morning, at night, or both. It turns itself off.

HiZoo is a heated pillow for your neck. You lie back on it, and four rounded prongs knead the back and sides of your neck, like a therapist’s thumbs. Gentle heat, up to 107°F, helps the muscles let go. Ten minutes later, it turns itself off.

It never touches your face. It works on the tight muscles around the way out, so the fluid in your face has somewhere to go. It takes your foot off the hose.

Drawing of a woman lying on HiZoo, with its four prongs pressing along the lymph path on the back and sides of her neck
Illustration: the four prongs press along the back and sides of your neck, where the way out runs. Never the front of the throat.

Two good times to use it. Before you get up, when the fluid has collected all night. Or at bedtime, so your neck can let go before you sleep. Do one or both. Lie back, close your eyes, and let it work.

No gel. No cold spoons. Nothing to hold.

People who do lymphatic drainage for a living bought one, too:

When I first started using it, I had a lot of tightness on the right side. I do MLD and facial treatments to my clients so it really intrigued me to see the marketing of this device. I have no more tightness or tenderness. And I can say that my face actually looks thinner. Great device highly recommend

It released tension that had been building for weeks… Excellent design! Signed, a massage and manual lymphatic drainage therapist.

Fair warningThis is a deep massage for your neck muscles, not a light lymphatic stroke, so it can feel strong at first, especially on a tight neck. Start on Gentle for 5 minutes, with a thin scarf or collar between you and HiZoo. Build up to 10. Strong is normal. Sharp is not: stop, or go down a level.

If you are purchasing this for lymphatic drainage- my advice is..... go slow. For me the first few days was a little painful- then the fluid started moving and the massage feels great.

So what happened to Dominique?

Remember her? Five years of puffy eyes. Everything tried. Surgery on her mind.

Here’s how she finished her review:

Then, I saw this massage pillow on Instagram, and thought “why not? I’ve heard about the power of myo fascial massage, but going to a practitioner regularly wouldn’t fit within my budget. Why not give this a try? I can return it if it doesn’t work....” Well ya’ll, I’m here to tell you IT WORKS!!! Within about a week, I looked like me again, and I felt so much better too. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

“Within about a week, I looked like me again.”

That’s what this is really about. Not looking 25 again. Looking like you again.

Picture your mornings a few weeks from now

Your alarm goes off. Before you get up, you lie back on HiZoo. Warm. Kneading. Ten quiet minutes.

Then you flip on the bathroom light, and it’s just you. Eyes open all the way. Cheeks that look like your cheeks. A jawline you can actually see.

You leave your camera on. You stand in the middle of the photo. And someone says the words you haven’t heard in a while: “You look rested.”

Owners have told us about moments like that:

My husband also says my jawline is coming back into focus so it seems it’s also helping lymphatically.

I’ve been using my Hizoo for about two weeks now, and I already notice my face looking less puffy, especially in the mornings, and I can truly feel the stress melting.

How fast? Here’s what owners have told us (not everyone, and not always in this order):

  • First use“I noticed results in my face after the first ten-minute session!” Claudia S.
  • Next morning“…makes falling asleep so easy and waking up without all the bloat e puffiness” Gillian T.
  • A few uses“I could already notice a depuffing effect in my face in the morning after a couple of uses!” Bridget V.
  • About a week“My face seems less puffy after 1 week of use.” Kristina C.
  • About 8 uses“I bought this to help with face puffiness, and after about eight or so uses, I can say I am noticing my face slimming down.” Brett S.
  • A couple of weeks“I've only been using it for a couple of weeks but I'm already feeling & seeing results. My neck & face are slimmer…” Lynn S.
  • Day 21Your turn. Take your second morning selfie (see below).

Some women see it the next morning. Some feel it in their neck first and see their face change later. That’s why you get 30 days and your own photos to decide.

Or tomorrow looks just like today

You can keep going the way you are. The cold spoon. The concealer. The camera off. Another $150 massage that wears off by the weekend.

But tomorrow at 7 a.m., the fluid will be back. It comes back every night. And nothing you rub on your face changes where it has to drain.

Your face isn’t the problem. The way out is.

This little machine works to relieve stress and tightness deep down. While it was very painful at first, now I look forward to feeling that kneading after a long day. I am also not waking up puffy faced at this beginning of allergy season.

At first it hurt but it was because my neck area was so tense. After slowing down the rotation, it feels amazing and has reduced knots. Face is less puffy as well.

Too often social media ads embellish the truth and overstate products’ values. That is NOT the case with my Hizoo massager! It provided a fantastic massage, and I definitely noticed the visible effects in my face from the lymphatic drain.

Questions

Is this the same as a lymphatic drainage massage?
No, and it doesn’t pretend to be. A therapist uses feather-light strokes on your skin, for an hour, once in a while. HiZoo works one layer down, on the tight muscles around the way out, for 10 minutes every day. Some owners keep their appointments and use HiZoo in between.
How fast will I see a difference?
Some owners notice it the next morning. Others take a week or two. Some feel it in their neck first and see their face change later. Take your morning selfie the day it arrives, so you can compare.
Aren’t under-eye bags fat, not fluid?
Some are. With age, some bags are fat that has moved forward, and only a surgeon can change that. But fat doesn’t change between 7 a.m. and lunch. Fluid does. If your bags are worse when you wake up and better by noon, that part is fluid, and that’s the part HiZoo is for. The two-selfie test above shows you which you have.
What if my face doesn’t change?
A few women mostly notice their neck. That’s why you get 30 days and your own morning photos to decide.
Shouldn’t I use ice, not heat?
Ice on your face shrinks puffiness for an hour. HiZoo’s warmth doesn’t go on your face. It goes on your neck, to relax the tight muscles around the way out. Use both if you like.
Does it hurt? Will the heat burn?
There are three strengths: Gentle, Moderate and Intense. The heat goes up to 107°F, like a heating pad. If your neck is very tight, even Gentle can feel strong the first few mornings, so start there for 5 minutes, with a thin scarf or collar between you and HiZoo. Strong is normal; sharp is not. Use it on the back and sides of your neck, never the front of your throat.
Will it fit my neck?
Rest it behind your neck, just below the base of your skull, and the prongs reach the back and sides. Use it on a bed or sofa rather than a slippery floor. If it doesn’t fit you, send it back within 30 days.
Will it tighten loose skin?
No. Loose skin is a job for a surgeon. HiZoo works on a tight neck and the fluid that makes your face look puffy and tired. For a lot of women, that’s most of what they see in photos.
I get Botox and filler. Is that a problem?
HiZoo works on the back and sides of your neck, not on your face. If you’ve just had injections in your neck or jaw, ask your injector how long to wait.
I’ve seen neck massagers like this for $45. What’s different?
Some look a lot like ours, and we won’t pretend otherwise. With HiZoo you get a design a physician spent two years and 47 prototypes on, a 2 year warranty, U.S. warehouses in California and Massachusetts, a person at support@hizoo.co, and 30 days to test it on your own face.
What if it doesn’t work for me?
Email support@hizoo.co within 30 days of delivery and we’ll send a return label. Light use is fine. Send it back with everything it came with: the cable, the pouch and the box. Your refund goes back to your card within 5 business days after it arrives and is checked, minus return shipping (a flat $15 or the carrier’s cost).
Is it safe?
It’s a massager, not a medical treatment. It turns itself off after 10 minutes, so if you doze off, it stops on its own. If you’ve had neck surgery, take blood thinners, have a medical condition, are pregnant, or bruise easily, ask your doctor first.
